The White Gull Inn
4225 Main St., P.O. Box 160
Fish Creek, WI 54212
Established in 1896, this white clapboard Inn is tucked away in the scenic bayside village of Fish Creek, on Wisconsin's Door Peninsula. Turn of the century antiques, fireplaces and meticulously restored and decorated rooms and cottages provide a warm, hospitable atmosphere. Famous for hearty breakfasts and lunches and candle-light dinners, the inn is renowned for its unique, traditional Door
County fish boils, featuring locally caught whitefish cooked outside over an open fire.
Location
A special feeling envelops you when you cross the bridge over the bay that divides Door County from the rest of Wisconsin. Everyday hassles and worries evaporate as you drive northward through miles of apple and cherry orchards, interspersed with farm fields, cedar forests and small villages.
Eventually, the highway dips and curves down the bluff, then delivers you into Fish Creek, a coastal town with a permanent population of less than 100. Settled in the 1800's by loggers and fishermen, Fish Creek has a natural harbor that separates the village from Peninsula State Park. Turn left at the stop sign (where the highway and the traffic turn right), go three blocks down maple-shaded Main Street, and just before it ends at Sunset Beach Park, you arrive at the historic White Gull Inn.
Accommodations
6 Rooms, 3 Suites, 5 Cottages, all with Private Baths. Most rooms and cottages have fireplaces. Dr. Welcker's Suite, named for the man who founded the White Gull in 1896, has a double whirlpool bath. The doctor had good taste in furniture, and the walnut, oak or iron bed you sleep in may have been one of his acquisitions. Over the years, we've added to the antiques and decorated the rooms with coordinating prints
and fabrics that maintain the warm, turn-of-the-century flavor. Comfort, however, is strictly up-to-date, with firm mattresses, air-conditioning, modern plumbing and little touches that make your stay as comfortable as can be.
Amenities
Golf, tennis, swimming, sailing, hiking, biking, XC skiing, antique shops, art galleries, theatre, music festival.
