Maison Bayou Waterfront Bed & Breakfast Plantation

Maison-Bayou is located on the banks of Big Cypress Bayou, amongst 55 wooded acres, yet is moments from the center of Historic Downtown Jefferson. The main property is an authentic reproduction of the 1850's Burden Plantation. Within the Overseer's house, where the full breakfast is served, Heart of Pine floors, walls and ceilings, natural gas burning lanterns, and period antiques and fabrics create an atmosphere reminiscent of what guests would have found in a country plantation prior to the Civil War. Breakfast is served in the glassed-in gallery overlooking the private cypress lake with gazebo.

Architecturally styled after authentic Slave Quarter Cabins, guests can relax with total privacy. Each cabin mixes primitive furnishings, soft, comfortable fabrics and the modern conveniences of today to provide a perfect blend. Cabins 1 through 3 feature a claw foot tub with brass hand-held shower, while Cabin 4 offers a large, handicapped accessible stand-up shower. BUNKHOUSES. Built on the Old Jefferson to Marshall Stagecoach Road, these cowboy bunkhouses are nestled adjacent to the woods, and appropriately overlook a corral setting. Constructed of beautiful rough sawn pine, milled from this property. Sitting room is appointed with a gas log fireplace, TV, ceiling fan, futon sofa, breakfast table, and kitchenette features of microwave, refrigerator and coffeemaker. Full size BUNKBEDS make these excellent for groups and families. Private bath features stand-up shower. Relax on your front porch for a true country experience. Access by a short trail is available for fishing on the Riverfront.

Maison Bayou Waterfront Bed & Breakfast, Jefferson, TexasEach building on the plantation has been painstakingly reproduced with 19th Century materials exactly to scale with the original structures. The Overseer's house where breakfast is served is constructed of antique hand-made brick, cypress board-siding, genuine old heart-of-pine flooring, 12' shiplap board walls, 10' centermatch ceilings, and antique transom doors. The working shutters have 'gun slots" and hand-wrought hardware just as the original. There are operating wall gaslights throughout the home, and wood stoves in each of the bedrooms. All the colors and fabrics throughout the home were chosen by Erin Jo Jurow, the interior designer whose specialty is knowing exactly what materials are accurate to a particular time period. A "gallery" overlooks the cypress beaver pond beyond the house and cabins, which was once the riverbed of the Big Cypress Bayou.

The Quarter's cabins are each different, and of a style true to the original designs built during the pre-Civil War era. The interior walls and flooring are constructed of 19th century rough-sawn lumber, "square" nails, and hand-made windows. One cabin has a wood-shake shingle roof, slave-made brick chimney, and fireplace/cooking hearth with a hand-wrought hinged pot cradle. The Plantation also has chicken, ducks, peacocks, nanny goats and other features true to the antebellum era.

Meals
With guests desiring breakfast, early coffee is offered beginning at 7:45am, and a full breakfast is served on glassed in Gallery at 8:45am.
