The main Inn building was a gristmill from 1770 until the early 1950's. Authentically decorated rooms, all with private bath, suggest the quiet elegance of Colonial America. In the fine dining restaurant, gourmet dinners are served. The tavern is downstairs past the mill's old water wheel. In 1997, a fine 1830 home from the village of Hope was moved onto the Inn's property. It features a meeting room, a parlor and a library with fireplace. The Inn has a tennis court and many major or minor walks and hikes are nearby.
Location
NW NJ, Skylands Region, Warren Cty. 50 m W of NYC, 70 m N of Philadelphia. In center of town. 23 acres with tennis, picnic areas, paths, brook. 10 m to Delaware River for canoeing, rafting, swimming, fishing. Golf, downhill and cross-country skiing, wineries, Waterloo Village nearby. Historic hamlet of Hope, founded in 1769 by Moravian settlers, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. During the Revolutionary War, grain from the mill in Hope was hauled over Jenny Jump Mountain to Washington's troops in Morristown.
Accommodations
17 doubles--all with full private bath, telephone, desk, air-conditioning. 5 with whirlpool tubs; 9 with TV. Rooms in 3 separate buildings. Guest rooms are found in the restored miller's and wheelwright's houses, while the original mill building is home to the restaurant, tavern, and additional guest rooms. Some rooms are done in a mix of formal and "country" Colonial styles, and are accented with antique and reproduction furnishings, and Williamsburg colors of blue, soft reds, grayish green, and cream.
