The Inn was built in 1972 as a retreat. The spacious interior is highlighted by massive beams of California Redwood, which were originally Southern Railway Company trestles. The timbers were cut from trees estimated to be over 400 years old. The creek that feeds the pond on the grounds is named Trestle House Inn Creek. The creek is part of the Albemarle Canoeing Trails of Eastern North Carolina. The Inn has canoes available for guests to use while exploring the Albemarle Sound and nearby waters.

Location
The Inn overlooks a wildlife refuge on a private lake. Behind the Inn is a large pond fed by the Albemarle Sound. It is filled with largemouth bass, beautiful yellow bream and is home to hundreds of Canada Geese and other waterfowl. The Trestle House is truly a wildlife enthusiast's dream.

Accommodations
All rooms have private bath, ceiling fans, Central Air, Electric Blankets and Handmade Quilts.

Meals
A freshly prepared breakfast is served daily at 8:30 a.m. on the deck that overlooks the pond or in the "Cook Room" overlooking the canal. A Special Trestle House Inn coffee blend is brewed and served with fruit and juice. The entrees vary daily and are always generously portioned and homemade. Muffins and bread are baked daily.

Amenities
The Inn has canoes available for guests to use while exploring the Albemarle Sound and nearby waters.
