Fryemont Inn
Bryson City, NC 00
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Inn has been welcoming visitors since 1923. It's rustic beauty is attributed to Amos Frye, who established a timber empire in the late 1800's and built the Inn with the finest chestnut, oak, and maple to be found in the region. In keeping with the landscape of the Smokies, the exterior was covered with bark from huge poplar trees, that is as sturdy today as it was when the strips were first cut.
Location
Located in the mountains 60 miles west of Asheville, the Fryemont Inn is a unique vantage point from which to explore the natural beauty and rich cultural heritage of Western North Carolina. Situated on a mountain shelf over-looking the quiet village of Bryson City and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the Inn offers you secluded comfort and excellent dining in the atmosphere of a bygone era.
Accommodations
The main lodge has 37 cozy chestnut paneled bedrooms. All have wall to wall carpeting and private baths, some with deep old fashioned pedestal tubs. No two rooms are alike, but all have many paned pocket windows that slide back to let in the crisp mountain air and the sounds of the woods at night. The cottage suites are located in three stone and cedar buildings adjacent to the main lodge. Each air-conditioned suite has a king sized bed, a separate living area, cable TV, a wet bar or kitchen, and a fireplace. Some have private decks, others have loft bedrooms. The cottage suites are perfect for that romantic getaway, and they are also the only accommodations that are open all year round.
Amenities
In the Fryemont's spacious lobby you'll find a huge stone fireplace, large enough to burn eight foot logs. There are areas for television, cards, games, and reading. The French doors lead out to the rocking chair porch with it's breathtaking view of the mountains. From the porch you can also glimpse the swimming pool which is nestled in a grove of hemlock, dogwood, and poplar.
Meals
Your stay at Fryemont Inn includes both breakfast and dinner. Choose from a full menu, for a cooked to order breakfast, featuring such entrees as French toast, pancakes, eggs, and omelettes. Dine by another huge stone fireplace in the elegant dining room. Overhead, brass and wood paddle fans hang from the raftered, vaulted ceiling, and the gleaming hardwood floors reflect the glow of the fireplace. Choose from a menu that combines the best of country and mountain fare including steaks and prime rib. Homemade soups, vegetable casseroles, desserts and fresh baked breads have been featured in numerous magazines and cookbooks. A wide variety of domestic and imported wines and beers are served as well as your favorite cocktails. The fireside bar is a popular meeting place for both Inn guests as well as locals.
