We believe that a guest is entitled to genuine and friendly hospitality, delicious breakfasts, and incredible guest-rooms, combined with meticulous attention to cleanliness and decorating details. We and our staff make sure to smile as we welcome guests to the inn, we want them to feel as though they are friends returning from a trip. Besides a verbal word of "thanks" we have developed a couple of tangible personal gifts that we give to each couple at checkout. We believe that sincerity and appreciation make the inn an engaging and memorable vacation spot to which many guests return year after year and also send friends and family.

Location
The inn is located just three short blocks from the commercial center of Kennebunkport, Dock Square. There a guest may find small art galleries, boutiques, restaurants, gift shops, and lots of "Kodak" moments. The Kennebunk River splits the area in two and there are great sights of lobster boats, pleasure boats, and tourist cruse ships crowded around the wharves on the river. Within two miles of Dock Square, Kennebunkport is the quintessential Maine coastal fishing village of Cape Porpoise. Lobster boats and brightly colored buoys dot Cape Porpoise harbor, seaworn lobster traps are heaped high on the fish pier reaching toward the sky where sea gulls whirl crazily overhead in the afternoon sun. you can devour a fresh-caught and just-boiled lobster right there at the pier at Seascapes Restaurant overlooking the busy harbor.

Two other important attractions within 5 miles of the Port are the Laudholm Farm National Estuary Reserve and the Rachael Carson Wildlife Preserve. Both of these nature areas provide you with scenic vistas, wooded hiking trails, and a peaceful opportunity to see wildlife.

Of course, a trip to Kennebunkport is not complete without a trip out "Ocean Ave" to view the rock-bound coastal vistas, the shingle-style "summer" cottages and President George Bush's family compound.

Meals
Family-style full three-course breakfasts are serve in an atmospheric country kitchen. Breakfast begins with a choice of fresh fruit, creamy, French-vanilla yogurt, and a flavorful muesli cereal. The second course consists of made-from-scratch muffins served piping hot from the oven to the table. The main course varies day to day and one of the following scrumptious dishes is served; Belgian waffles or buckwheat pancakes with fresh apples or blueberries, or Texas-size, cinnamon French toast, vegetable quiche, or another type of baked egg casserole dish. There is no room service or breakfast in bed served because it is the philosophy of the innkeepers that the communal family-style breakfast a major part of the Captain Lord mansion experience.

There is afternoon tea and sweets served daily in the atmospheric country kitchen. In summer, the inn serves iced-tea from a large ceramic crock. In winter, a "Swedish Glogg" (a non-alcoholic mulled cider and cranberry juice) is kept simmering in a crock pot on the big antique stove in the kitchen. Each day the cook prepares a different kind of homemade snack to be enjoyed by the guests.
