Nassau House

Key West, FL 00

photo1 for Nassau House

Built in 1894 as a private residence, this once magnificent home, now is yours to explore. The architecture style called "Conch", which also refers to a person who was born in Key West.

Elizabeth and I purchased Nassau House for one million dollars in January of 1999 and have spent more dollars than we care to count, but Nassau House is finally coming in to its own, and our staff, well they are priceless!

Location
We are located in a quiet residential neighborhood, just a short walk from Duval Street, but far enough away so that you are not bothered when you decide you need a rest or just a peaceful day sitting on our wrap around front porch listening to winds softly blowing through our trees or listening to the afternoon songs of Fleming. (Fleming is our African Grey Bird, he is known by all who pass and he knows most!) One thing for sure, Fleming is quite a character. Remember the old saying "do not judge a book by its cover!" Well, when we first moved to Key West, a few years back, we would see the front of a house and not go in, and boy were we wrong. The inside of not only our B&B will amaze you, but a lot of older homes, which have secluded gardens and pools, will make you want to search for more gems like Nassau House!

Accommodations
All rooms at Nassau House, have A/C, with a iron and ironing board for those travel clothes. A private phone and cable T.V. We offer you the use of our Robes and Houseshoes, while on property. They are great for trips to the Lagoon and breezy nights.
The Gazebo located overlooking our wraparound front porch, where one can have their fresh baked morning delights and freshly ground coffee in the shade! Or enjoy a quiet night sitting in our white wicker and watching the relaxed pace of Key West go by on a star lite night! We have Guest who spend most of their visit reading on this beautiful porch (one of the reason we purchased Nassau House, Elizabeth and I fell in love with this spot)! And the Gazebo Room has four windows, so when the ocean breeze is flowing through the Nassau House, as it does, one can open their windows and smell the freshness of the sea!
The Bahama Queen never had it so good ... except on her visits here! This quiet room is located on the second floor, which has only two rooms. Ruby's is across the hall, so you know, when you wish to sleep in, no one will be walking past your room all day waking you from your much needed rest. Or rest you may need after a fun night in Downtown Key West, but either way, your peace can be found here!
Ruby's' Queen named after my Grandmother, who taught me to drive! And she is still driving to this day! What a woman! Anyway, this is the room located across from the Bahama Queen and is just as quiet and relaxing!
Captains' Quarter, with plenty of room for your Mate! As with all of the rooms at Nassau House, which have private bath, phone, cable t.v, A/C, and shower. The CQ will give the feel of a real ship, without the rolling. This room really seems to come alive when we have one of our romantic rainy nights here in the Tropics. Again without the sea sickness! The CQ has its own microwave, toaster oven and wet bar! Not to mention, as in all the rooms private iron, ironing board and hairdryer for those special nights! And the large deck right out of your front door is a relaxing place to find sometime alone, during the day, while sunning or at night, while star gazing! A morning cup of coffee or juice is great in this spot!
Banana King. This could be our favorite room! The art work is original, featuring Wyland and others. And the bed, well, it has to be one of the largest king size beds around town. Plus, it is very comfortable! The room is large and has a wet bar that includes a sink, small refrigerator and microwave. The private bath includes a built in hairdryer, with other personal amenities to help you enjoy your stay.
The Nassau King and its warm charm, will bring comfort to you with its Tiffany Lamps and works of art by Pradzynski and his work "Antiquities". Not to mention the presents of Clark Gable. The Furnishings in our most elegant room do not stop here. The Armoire is originally from France and was purchased in New Orleans and carefully restored to its original beauty. This is also our most private and desired room. Two steps from your king size bed and you can sit on your private patio and enjoy your morning delights or afternoon refreshments. And when the urge comes over you to relax in our Lagoon with its soft waterfall, you are, once again, just steps away! The Nassau King has and will remain one of the favorites of honeymooners and those who love the warmth of a Bed and Breakfast, but demand just a little bit more privacy! If this is the case, then you will enjoy the Nassau King! And as all the rooms at Nassau House, the Nassau King has A/c, a private bath and/or shower, with robes, hairdryer, private phone, cable T.V. and more to make your stay, time after time, a vacation you will want to remember!
Upon entering the Double Down, one will feel the warmth and know this room has something for everyone! With plenty of room! Up to four can share their Key West experience at Nassau House. Sitting in this corner, perhaps affords, one of the best views at Nassau House. You can relax, quietly, while the cool breeze blows in off our porch!
Tree Tops Suite. This suite, located in the Tree Tops, hence the name, consist of one Queen size bed with private shower, phone, two A/Cs (which will keep you cool, if you like) and cable! You will be able to have extended stays in our Tree Tops, if you like, due to the full size refrigerator and stove, with microwave and plenty of room! Or, if you are traveling in a group, no need to worry, this suite opens up with adjoining doors making it a two bedroom suite. Up to eight people may enjoy this suite, but without feeling crowded! So, whether it is just the two, or one adventurer, or a party of eight. You will find this Suite to your liking at Nassau House!

Meals
Some Ladies wish for pickles when bearing children, God Love You, and others, well, with Elizabeth it was KeyLime Pie! A few years back and just before our second child was born, my wife and I traveled, almost, every street and visited all the restaurants we could find in the Keys and then some, in search of KeyLime Pie. And trust me, we sampled most ... I put 10 lbs. on, what was up with that .... Anyway, we are not saying we have the best in the Keys, my wife is a little too modest for that, but I am saying, it is great and for breakfast? Oh Yea! All our treat, with your Continental Breakfast, along with the Fresh Popovers dripping with Homemade Strawberry Butter. Or some of Bill's Fresh Baked Breads! Or just have it all. And do have your morning cups of our fresh ground coffee sitting on our large shaded wrap around front porch or our sunny deck next to the Whether your plans are to watch the world go by or if you are preparing for a day walking our quaint streets or planning to enjoy the beautiful waters that surround our Island. You have found the place to do what you want to do ... hassle free .... Can you smell our ovens yet?

Amenities
Stepping through our French Doors onto our spacious deck, one will most certainly feel the charm of Nassau House from that moment forward and even for years and years! We have a large repeat clientele, which points to one fact. The experience from us to you is worth the visit time after time. And for the newcomers to our family, well, simply, Welcome! Let your imagination take your for a moment or two ... You have just returned from your time about town.
