Blue Water House Bed and Breakfast Inn at the beac
Lewes, DE 00
Our family designed and built the Blue Water House from scratch to be used as a B&B. We had never stayed in a B&B before. As a result our Inn became a Bed
and Breakfast designed around what we felt people would like when they came to the beach. It is a casual,
kick-off-your-shoes, refreshing place to visit in the historic seaport of Lewes, Delaware. On a boat trip from the Chesapeake to Ocean City, MD, in the early 90's, a friend and I stopped in Lewes for lunch. They were throwing these sixty- pound tunas off the boat and on to the dock. We looked at each other and said, "LETS MOVE HERE." (He lives on the other side of the canal.) We invite you to come visit our bed and breakfast. You'll fall in love with Lewes, Delaware too.
Location
Lewes Beach is located at Cape Henlopen , where the Delaware Bay ends and the Ocean begins. The Blue Water House is located halfway between the Bay Beach and the Canal on the edge of wetlands and a residential community. We are a long block from the canal and 2 1/2 blocks from the sandy beaches of the Delaware Bay. To the southeast of us is Cape Henlopen State Park and the Atlantic Ocean. The park is full of nature trails and nature-related programs throughtout the year. Bird watchers will enjoy the nesting colonies of seabirds. Swim at pristine beaches (no buildings), or fish from the beach or fishing pier. Climb the WW2 watchtower for an incredible view of the Atlantic Ocean and the highest sand dune between Cape Hatteras and Cape Cod.
To the west of us is Lewes Harbour and the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal. The canal is lined with restaurants as well as fishing boats waiting to take you fishing, sightseeing, on nature tours, or dinner cruises.
Accommodations
There are six guest rooms that all open onto a porch. The porch wraps around the building and provides the option of a private entrance to your room. All rooms have private baths and separately controlled air-conditioning. The rooms are spacious and decorated in an eclectic, fun style appropiate for the beach.
Amenities
On our ground level of our Bed and Breakfast we have a shaded patio surrounded by reeds. Red winged black birds nest in these reeds in the spring, and other birds fly in and out of the patio area. There is another smaller patio in the sun with a bench and pond. We also have on this level a refrigerator, grill, picnic table, and sink for our guests to use. World Famous ........Conga Bar ." Lie in the hammock with a frozen fruit drink, or perhaps a margarita.
The Lookout pops out of the roof and is surrounded by windows. From there you can see the water, the Lighthouse in the distance, the Ferry coming and going, and the sun rising and setting. This is a perfect place to read, watch TV, or sit and talk. This space works well also for small conferences.
Go fishing with Captain Chuck, and bring your catch back to the Blue Water House for a seafood feast. Share your catch with Captain Chuck (mandatory), or be a hero and share it with the rest of the guests. On both sides of the canal and a short walk from the Blue Water House is an array of fine shops and restaurants to explore and enjoy.
Meals
We live on the next level, where we serve breakfast in our dining room. Our hours are casual, and the food is yummy. We make fresh bread each morning (coconut-pineapple and apricot-almond, to name a few). We also get fine pasteries for a real sweet treat. Fresh fruit, juice and cereals add to the fare. Coffee is ready by 6:30 for the early birds.
